William Meskill Bourke

William Meskill Bourke (1913–1981) was an Australian solicitor, soldier, and later a federal Labor politician. Born in North Carlton, Melbourne, he built a career in law before serving briefly in the Australian Imperial Force during World War II. After returning to civilian life, he worked as a solicitor while assisting his family’s dry‑cleaning business. In 1949 he entered federal politics, becoming the Labor member for Fawkner and later a prominent right‑wing critic of ALP leader Dr H.V. Evatt.
